Museo Nacional de Costa Rica
The Museo Nacional de Costa Rica is located in an old fort (former Bellavista Military Barracks). Till date bullet holes can still be seen on the building. It holds exhibits featuring history, natural history, archaeology, & anthropology of Costa Rica. One exhibit depicts country❜s history from Pre-Colombian time to present. While there is another one showing how the fort was turned into a museum. Also, a butterfly garden is located within it.
Costa Rican Center of Science and Culture
The Costa Rican Center of Science and Culture is a perfect place to be called a family destination. Housed within are National Auditorium, Children❜s Museum, & National Gallery. It has several hands-on exhibits & other interesting things for both- children & adults. Most of the exhibits here focus on science, recycling, technology, & culture.
Carara National Park
Lying in the Central Pacific, the Carara National Park sits near the Tarcoles River. This national wildlife reserve was set up in the year 1978 with the aim to protect various animal species, flora, & fauna. Around 2-hour drive away from the city of San Jose, the park is worth a trip. Not many know, the park has larger rain forest area than Manuel Antonio National Park. Here one can see the Costa Rican Crocodile which is nearly 4-6 mt long. These are normally docile, but move very fast when hungry. Apart from this, here are large lizards, snakes, monkeys, two-toed sloths. Species of birds like Scarlet macaws, Toucans, Trogons, Mot Mots, & herons (water bird) are also found here.
The best time to visit the city of San José is from mid-December to April. During these months the city sees plenty of sunshine; thus, making it ideal time to explore the city & its surroundings.
